Welcome to the William E. Brown Website!
At William E. Brown School, we are dedicated to providing a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for our students. We believe that all students can and will learn in a supportive environment where the school and the home work cooperatively to ensure student success.
Our staff are dedicated to student learning and helping students reach their full potential. In addition, to providing an outstanding academic program, many of our staff volunteer their personal time to offer a variety of academic, athletic, musical, and artistic activities that allow students to explore their interests and talents. We are grateful for the many parent and community volunteers who donate their time to our students.
The team at W.E.B. is student focused and share the belief that a mistake is an opportunity to learn. Every student at W.E.B. will be treated with respect, their accomplishments will be valued and celebrated, their environment will be safe and nurturing and a variety of learning strategies will be provided to create attitudes that promote life long learners. We will encourage parent and teacher partnerships that model tolerance and respect for every child.
This website is one of the vehicles for the on-going communication between parent, teachers and children and is necessary for students to achieve educational success. We hope that it will become a useful and practical source of information for all who use it.
Spirit Wear!
Celebrate the legacy of William E. Brown School with our farewell spirit wear – a timeless way to carry the spirit of our cherished school. The spirit wear store will remain open until June 12. Orders will be filled on a monthly basis and delivered to the school.
New Joint School Update
After March Break St. Elizabeth is moving into William E. Brown School and space. The goal is to keep things running as usual, as much as possible. Bussing routines, entry and dismissal will continue as normal. St. Elizabeth students will join us for unloading and loading routines. We hope to maintain our current end of day bus times as best as we can.
Our daily schedule will remain the same, including break times and instructional times. St. Elizabeth operates on a traditional school day with 2 recesses and a lunch; however, all break times will be separate for each school. Our gym schedule may require a few adjustments to accommodate St. Elizabeth’s classes. However, with spring weather coming, we are hopeful that we will have the opportunities to shift our physical education classes outdoors when possible. Any changes will be communicated by your student’s teacher.
As our library space has shifted to a classroom, we are working in partnership with the Wainfleet Public Library to ensure our students continue to have library experiences and opportunities to check out books.
Both schools will have their own PA system, therefor announcements and paging will be done separately. Fire drill and lock down procedures will run cooperatively with both schools. We will run drills following the March Break to ensure all students know the process.
Thank you for your continued support and patience.
Have a great March Break!
About W E Brown Public School
William E. Brown School is known for a long and successful existence. Our records indicate that a school, in School Section No. 4 Wainfleet, in Marshville existed as far back as 1890. The records show that on March 24, 1890, J. S. Simpson was elected as trustee for the area and that Wm. Brown seconded a motion for Mr. Simpson's nomination. In the historic village of Marshville, the school has been restored to resemble the school mentioned in our archived records.
The school at Marshville was replaced by the current building in 1914. It was known as S.S. No. 4 until it was renamed after a Mr. William E. Brown, who served as the secretary/treasurer for Wainfleet School Section No. 4 from 1945 -1965. In the years following 1914 William E. Brown School has had several additions and renovations, but the original building still serves as the main structure of the school and is used as a classroom. In 2014 William E. Brown School will celebrate 100 years of existence.
Many of the students currently attending are the second generation in their family to do so and there are still a few families whose children are the third generation to attend this school. The grandparents have now become active volunteers at the school.
